The Galaxy Halo Formation Rate
نویسنده
چکیده
The rate at which galaxy halos form is thought to play a key role in explaining many observable cosmological phenomena such as the initial epoch at which luminous matter forms and the distribution of active galaxies. Here we show how Press-Schechter theory[6] can be used to provide a simple, completely analytic model of the halo formation rate. This model shows good agreement with both Monte-Carlo and N-body simulation results.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملThe luminosity-weighted or ‘marked’ correlation function
We present measurements of the redshift-space luminosity-weighted or ‘marked’ correlation function in the SDSS. These are compared with a model in which the luminosity function and luminosity dependence of clustering are the same as that observed, and in which the form of the luminosity-weighted correlation function is entirely a consequence of the fact that massive halos populate dense regions...
متن کاملObservational Evidence for an Age Dependence of Halo Bias
We study the dependence of the cross-correlation between galaxies and galaxy groups on various group properties. Confirming previous results, we find that the correlation strength is stronger for more massive groups, in good agreement with the expected mass dependence of halo bias. We also find, however, that for groups of the same mass, the correlation strength depends on the luminosity and st...
متن کاملEffects of Sperm Acrosomal Integrity and Protamine Deficiency on In Vitro Fertilization and Pregnancy Rate
Background The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between protamine deficiency, and acrosomal integrity with fertilization and pregnancy rate in patients undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF). MaterialsAndMethods Semen samples from 70 infertile couples undergoing IVF at Isfahan Fertility and Infertility center were assessed in this study. Semen analysis was carried out ac...
متن کاملConnecting Galaxies, Halos, and Star Formation Rates across Cosmic Time
A simple, observationally-motivated model is presented for understanding how halo masses, galaxy stellar masses, and star formation rates are related, and how these relations evolve with time. The relation between halo mass and galaxy stellar mass is determined by matching the observed spatial abundance of galaxies to the expected spatial abundance of halos at multiple epochs — i.e. more massiv...
